This is general guidance by genus. Species, hybrids, potting mix and your home conditions may call for different care. Check moisture and actual growth before following a schedule.

Light and position

Soft indirect light, a little more than a Paphiopedilum.

When and how to water

Maintain regular moisture with low-salt water and good airflow. Needs vary by species: do not automatically stand every pot in water or allow stagnant mix.

Potting mix and container

Fine bark with perlite and sphagnum, in a plastic pot.

Feeding during growth

Extremely salt-sensitive: an eighth of the dose, and rainwater or RO water, always.

When to repot

Yearly. Permanently wet mix breaks down fast.

Dormancy and seasonal changes

No rest. Constant moisture year round.

Flowering and new growth

Many species open one flower at a time on the same stem, for months. Do not cut the stem while it stays green. Constant pure water and a new fan each year.

What to watch for

Salt buildup can damage roots and leaf tips. Check water quality, fertilizer and drainage; not every problem comes from tap water, and not every species tolerates standing water.
