This is general guidance by genus. Species, hybrids, potting mix and your home conditions may call for different care. Check moisture and actual growth before following a schedule.
Light and position
Soft light, less than a Phalaenopsis. Pale leaves with a pink flush mean too much light.
When and how to water
Keep the mix lightly moist at all times — never bone dry, never soggy. Use rainwater or low-salt water.
Potting mix and container
A fine mix of bark, sphagnum and perlite that holds moisture yet stays airy.
Feeding during growth
Very salt-sensitive: feed at quarter strength every three weeks and always flush afterwards.
When to repot
Yearly, in spring. Old, sour mix kills its fine roots.
Dormancy and seasonal changes
No rest period. What it needs is to survive summer: shade, airflow and coolness.
Flowering and new growth
One or two spikes per new pseudobulb, with two to five strongly scented flowers lasting four to six weeks. Cool nights below 18 °C while the new pseudobulb matures.
What to watch for
If tips darken, check roots, moisture, water quality and fertilizer strength. Do not assume every mark has the same cause or feed a stressed plant in an attempt to fix it.
